General information about the Hikershome auberge
This over 100 year old recently renovated building is situated on an altitude of 2000m in the Atlas Mountains on top of a rock escarpment at the foot of the 4060m high Jbel M’Goun.
It has breathtaking views in all directions and is an ideal place for daytrips cross the Atlas-Mountains. No matter if you are a hiker or a mountain biker, a climber or a motor biker the beauty of the region is interesting for all outdoor people. Even canyoning is possible in the nearby valley down stream and when you like to go abseiling; we have all the equipment for you to rappel down from our own overhanging rock directly behind the building.
The house is traditionally built with 50cm thick stone walls and small windows. This prevents the heat to come in during summer and keeps the cold out during winter. All roofs are made from round wooden beams with bamboo sheets and a 20cm waterproof clay mixture on top. This kind of construction fits fully in the landscape.
Besides bedrooms you’ll find a kitchen, a toilet + wash facility, a 8 x 3.5m garage to park your ATB’s or motorbikes and a magnificent roof terrace.
In the gardens beside the house we grow vegetables, also apples, figs, almonds, and cactus fruits – depending on the time of the year.
Water supply comes from our own pure spring 500m higher up in the mountains. It’s guided by a pipeline to a container on the roof of the house. The water quality is the same as the bottled water you buy in town. You’ll find no shops around the corner here so bread is backed at home in an oven just like the local people did (and still do) over hundreds of years. This sounds all very basic but since December 2008 we have electricity connection.
Visiting Hikershome
Ideal time of the year to visit the Hikershome is spring autumn and summer. During the winter it is too cold up there. However, for those who like snow it will be the ideal place then.

All Hikershome activities start with a first and last night at the Bikershome Off-road centre in Ouarzazate.
Due to the so many different wishes of our clients we cannot work with fixed programs. Let us know which activities you like to do and we make you a custom-made program.
