Research Planning Design Research is a niche specialty for URDC. We work with clients to provide targeted information in a variety of areas. For example, we develop school enrollment projections that help school districts determine the need for new or expanded schools. We also develop surveys to identify important, timely community issues which our comprehensive plans must address. We are also experts at performing housing market studies, both in the general market and for income-restricted housing. We are certified by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency to perform market studies required for proposed developments applying for tax credit financing. We have also prepared commercial market studies in several different subject areas. Planning has been one of URDC's strongest activities since the firm was founded in 1968. We have prepared more than 200 comprehensive plans, mostly in Pennsylvania, for individual municipalities and multimunicipal regions. We have also written local zoning ordinances and subdivision and land development ordinances, many as the result of our comprehensive planning work. We have also worked for public clients at the federal, state, county, municipal, and multimunicipal levels, in planning for: Capital Improvements Community Development Strategies Downtown Revitalization Economic Development Greenways Highway Interchange and Corridor Planning Land Preservation Neighborhood Revitalization Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Scenic Rivers Trail Feasibility Design at URDC encompasses both landscape architecture and site planning related work. We prepare both conceptual plans and detailed final construction drawings for municipal park and streetscape improvement projects as well as residential and commercial land development. Our experience includes the detailed design of many urban design projects including trails, river walks, gateway entrances and public plazas. Our involvement includes design of stormwater management including detention, to control peak runoff rates, and infiltration to control water quality and recharge groundwater. We design landscaped rain-gardens and runoff infiltration systems and are responsible for E&S control, NPDES permitting and municipal approval of land development projects.
