Mayor De Graff Appoints New Trustee

Mayor Don De Graff has appointed Vickie L. Perkins as village trustee with unanimous approval of the Village Board, replacing retiring trustee Mathew James. Vickie has served the village as a volunteer for thirteen years. She is currently serving as the Chairman of the Youth Commission and has been involved with the commission for the past seven years. The Youth Commission works to identify, develop and execute programs and activities that engage South Holland youth in positive way. Under her leadership, the commission has further developed the Winter Break program, which introduces South Holland children to new cultural and social experiences. During the annual Youth Commission Lock-In at the Community Center, Vickie organizes and manages the Lock-In café, ensuring refreshments are available for the kids all night long. Vickie is intimately involved in the Heritage Haul both in planning and event participation. Each year she brings a Starbucks team to provide refreshments during the event. Vicki is the recipient of the 2013 Mayor’s Award for Future Leadership and the 2014 recipient of the Diversity, Inc. Community Spirit Award. Vickie is the Southeast Suburban District Manager for Starbucks. A twelve year employee, she has received several awards, including District Manager of the Year for Customer Service. Vickie and her husband, Carlos are twenty year residents of South Holland. She is a mother (to sons Carlos James and Mikael) a mother-in-law (to Carlos James’ wife Ashley) and a grandmother (to Carmen, daughter of Carlos James & Ashley).
