Moving overseas with kids

So it looks like we are taking a hardship posting in Vanuatu, South Pacific. No more sub zero winters and $700 heating bills. No more $50 tax rides each way plus $60 for the babysitter just so we can have a “stress free” night out for 4 hours. No more 50 -60 hour weeks at work and then spending the weekend trying to catch up on sleep while attempting to spend some quality time with the girls. They must wonder why mum and dad need to sleep so much on the weekend, probably putting it down to our old age. Since they’re only 3, I dont think they read too much into it. And given that they have naps at day care, it’s not like they can throw stones.
Back on topic. I have taken a job in Vanuatu commencing in November. I will be spending 5 weeks there without Wife and kids before they move over, and quite frankly I dont like the thought of spending that much time away from them. I know that Wife and I can manage; but I wonder what the girls will make of it, not having daddy home each day, and only seeing him over some crap Skype connection.  I have often wondered how people in the armed services do it. They get paid not even remotely enough to spend a decent portion of the year away from their wife and kids in some godforsaken country without the virtual certainty (that we take for granted) that they’ll be able to go home and see their wife/husband and kids again – or in some cases for the first time.

Welcome

I originally registered this domain name with the intention of posting articles and advice on twins and multiples with the hope that it would generate some money from the ads that can be placed around the page. The articles would be your usual run of the mill topics like “how are twins conceived”, “what’s the difference between identical and fraternal twins?”, “tips for surviving the first year” etc, etc that basically just rehash the stuff you read from books or similar websites.
But now I’m planning to write more personal posts based around the experiences my wife and I have had so far raising our twin girls, who recently turned three. I’m hoping that this will prove to be just as useful, but be more entertaining (or at least interesting). Most of all, I’m hoping that it will prompt some comments from readers and start discussions around the various issues parents of multiples and their families face.
So let’s see how this goes.
PS – for those of you who have some experience with blogging, you would have noticed that this blog’s appearance is the default theme provided when you initially install WordPress to your hosting account. Don’t despair; I plan to change the theme to something more relevant in the future.
