COMING IN FROM THE COLD

Winter months bring my two favorite slam events:
Louder Than A Bomb- the Chicago Youth Poetry Festival; 
and the Women Of the World Poetry Slam, another PSi event. 
LTAB is the youth slam for the Chicagoland area featuring high school 
and middle school age divisions of teams and individuals taking an 
educated step into performance, writing and collaborative art. The teams 
represent area schools and writing/arts groups. In addition to the kids, 
the LTAB College Slam features area rising talent in a series of bouts 
that in the past has sent it's top finishers to the National Poetry 
Slam. The Coaches slam lets the youth watch as their mentors practice 
what they teach. The MC Olympics is a n event that connects LTAB 
directly to it's HIpHop roots. The festival begins with the performance 
and workshop series Crossing The Street and, for the first time will 
include an Individual Championship final separate from final night. The 
tentative schedule for the 11th annual LTAB can be found at

I am sad to say that, for the first time in several years, I will miss 
LTAB final night, as the Chicago Four Star Poetry Club are acting as 
official volunteers for the 4th Women Of the World Poetry Slam. WOWps 
returns to Columbus, OH for the second year in a row where some of the 
performance poetry's best veteran and young talent compete in 
audience-inspired, good-spirited bouts for reputation, pride and, yeah, 
prizes. in addition to brilliant battles there are great side events 
like the Beauty vs. Brawn Slam, Head-to-Head Haiku, workshops and more. 
The festival starts with the last-chance-slam for the prize of a paid 
registration and guaranteed slot in the competition-proper from Poetry 
Slam, Inc. The winner joins at least 63 other venue champs, legacy poets 
(champs, multiple finalists) and storm (at-large) poets for 2 nights of 
preliminary bouts the narrow the field to 10 for finals night. WOWps is
