The theme was Translational Pathology: Relevance of Toxicologic Pathology to Human Health. The topics were varied and included Biomarker discussions, Stem cell therapies, regulatory issues and toxicity concordance between preclinical animals and humans. The poster topics were equally wide ranging, with general categories such as Oncology Carcinogenesis, Biomarkers and New Technologies. With just over 100 posters, reading all of those abstracts would take a very long time! But by importing the poster titles, author names and abstracts into TxtViz, we can rapidly review the key topics in minutes.TxtViz sorted the abstracts into groups based on their similarity. The dots in the galaxy below represent records, similar records are grouped together and outliers can be seen at the edges. The highlighted records (shown in yellow), are a group of posters including “Post-Natal Development of the Ovary in the Rat” and “Reproductive Staging in the Gottingen Miniature Pig”.TxtViz GalaxyUsing TxtViz, I was able to see which authors had posters in different categories, and how the major topics within the abstracts correlated with the broader topics outlined by the STP. I could also use our comprehensive tissue vocabularies to see which were mentioned in the abstracts, and found that tissues such as blood and liver were common across all categories, as were reproductive organs such as testis, cervix and the uterus. We presented a poster entitled “Use of Legacy Data to Assess Species Concordance for Liver Injury”, which showed how data from the Safety Intelligence Program (SIP) can be used in conjunction with OmniViz to look at drug toxicity in different species, and track whether toxicity in animals translated into humans.Download our STP 2014 poster hereAs usual, it was a very interesting meeting and I shall look forward to next year’s combined meeting with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology.Posted in Blog Posts| Leave a replyAnalysis of Drug Target Literature Using TxtViz: Differentiating between indications and adverse eventsPosted on April 22, 2014 by Sally NeathReplyTxtViz is a powerful and flexible analytics tool that allows the rapid, unbiased assessment of text documents. Here we describe a workflow for the analysis of drug target literature, which could support drug development by revealing new therapeutic applications and possible safety liabilities. Conventional literature searches have the pote
