Help Your Child Settle Into the New School Year
Starting school involves many changes for your child including new schools, teachers, classmates, routines, and school work. These changes can cause feelings of anxiety, sadness, or anger, resulting in changes in their mood or behavior. It’s sometimes easier to spot these behavioral changes in older kids. It may be more difficult to spot these changes in young children as it is harder for them to express the way they are feeling. Read more
BMC’s Physicians Treat Baby with Craniosynostosis
When Viviana noticed that her one month old daughter’s head was misshapen, she decided to make an appointment at Boston Medical Center. She met with James Holsapple, MD, Chief of Neurosurgery at BMC, who examined Diana’s head and ordered a CT. The diagnosis was craniosynostosis: a birth defect in which one or more of the joints in the baby’s skull closes prematurely before the brain is fully formed. Read more
Prostate Cancer Care
Now is the perfect time to think about the issue of men’s health, and to schedule a prostate screening. Screenings are especially important for those who are considered “higher risk” individuals. According the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), men who are at a higher risk for developing prostate cancer are: aged 50 or older; African Americans; and those with a father, brother, or son who has had prostate cancer.
