Center for Ecig Laws & Public Interest Latest Blogs TVECA Operations Director On The Ecigarette Positives TVECA or Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association is a non-profit group that promotes creation of responsible and sensible ecig market through education, research and communication for consumers, legislators and media. For such purpose, its operations director Tom Kiklas speaks about the ecigarette positives that many prohibitionists seem to disregard. According to Kiklas, he initially thinks that some people who ask about the safety of the products or wonder why ecigs are not studied more are lacking sufficient awareness about the ecig category. Five Components of Ecigs There are five main components of ecigarette products. All these constituents have been used in the USA as food supplies and ingredients for years; all are approved by the FDA and also by the EPA or Environmental Protection Agency as appropriate for inhalation. Thus, seeking for additional studies seems to be pointless. Propylene glycol that is responsible for creating vapors has been examined by EPA. It stated that upon its assessment of the existing information on toxicity, it is concluded that the inhalation, dermal or oral exposure to propylene glycol and to dipropylene glycol has no points of concern. Nicotine, water and food flavorings are likewise not needed to be further studied. In fact, there are more than 30 different scientific studies that were previously done on the devices. Not even one of these studies said that it found even a slight level of components that can cause harm to the human users. These studies affirming ecigarette positives included a 2009 study by the FDA. Electronic cigarettes have already proven its social utility, according to Kiklas, time and again. Those people or bodies wanting to limit and deny the public ecigarette access are frequently claiming that the products are not yet proven safe or effective in studies. They are obviously showing either ignorance or malicious agenda that is clearly not for the best interest of the public. Knowledge To Change Perceptions In his article, Kiklas also mentioned that last August in Laguna Beach, California, the city council reviewed and discussed whether ecig use within Laguna Beach is to be banned or not. The city’s attorney wrote and included in the amendment of the bill that the FDA has performed laboratory testing of ecig samples. The agency found that these samples have toxic chemicals and carcinogens to which bystanders and users are likely to be exposed. Before Laguna Beach City Council, TVECA has had the opportunity to present scientific facts that will refute the press release of FDA regarding this study in July 2009. This presentation helped the council in deciding that an ecig ban is not necessary.
