开发建设临港产业区是上海市委、市政府面向二十一世纪全球经济发展，实现上海新跨越所作出的重大战略决策；是上海提升产业能级、提高城市国际竞争力的重要战略举措。按照国家经济发展战略与城市总体规划的要求，推进高新技术产业化和战略性新兴产业发展，将上海临港产业区建成集先进重大装备、民用航空制造、现代物流、海洋科技、研发服务、出口加工、教育培训等功能为一体的国家新型工业化产业示范基地。
Lingang Industrial Park is a major project by Communist Party of China Shanghai Committee and Shanghai Municipal Government with a view to enhancing its industrial capacity and strengthening its competitiveness when faced with economic globalization and pressurized to reach up to a new development level. Lingang Industrial Park will, in compliance with national economic strategy and Shanghai’s urban planning, focus on the industrialization of high-technology achievements and newly emerging industries of strategic importance. The Park aims to be a National New-type Industrialization Demonstration Base by developing heavy equipment manufacturing, civil aviation equipment manufacturing, modern logistics, marine technology, R&D service, export processing and education and training etc. 
上海临港产业区面积241平方公里，主要分为重装备区、物流园区、主产业区、综合园区、奉贤园区五大功能区块。
Shanghai Lingang Industrial Park situated on the coast of East China Sea, it covers an area of 241 km2. It is made up of Heavy Equipment Zone, Logistics Zone, Main Industrial Zone, Comprehensive Zone and Fenxian Sub-park. 
上海临港产业区北至大治河，西至G1501高速公路─奉贤浦东新区界─浦东铁路四团站（平安站）预控制用地─三团港接规划两港大道接中港，东、南至规划海岸线围合区域接北护城河至人民塘接S2高速公路至顺翔路接规划E1路河至杭州湾。
Shanghai Lingang Industrial Park north to Dazhi River, west to the G1501 highway - Fengxian Pudong New Area - Pudong SiTuan Railway Station (PingAn Railway Station) pre controlled land - SanTuan Gang connects planning Liang Gang Avenue, Middle Gang Avenue, East, south to the planning coastline, North City Moat and the People’s Pond with the S2 highway to Shun Xiang Road and the planning E1 Road River to the Hangzhou Gulf.
上海临港产业区已经基本形成了汽车整车及零部件、大型船舶关键件、发电及输变电设备、海洋工程设备、航空零部件配套等五大装备产业制造基地。物流园区依托洋山保税港和浦东国际航空港，作为建设上海国际航运中心的重要组成部分，大力发展保税物流和非保税物流。随着临港装备制造产业与现代物流业的集聚效应和联动发展，启动开发建设航空产业园区和临港奉贤园区，将为临港产业区进一步提升装备产业和供应链能级提供新的发展空间。
Five industrial clusters of automobiles, marine parts, electrical equipment, offshore & engineering equipment and aircraft parts are taking shape in Shanghai Lingang Industrial Park. Lingang’s Logistics industry benefits from its unique geographic location between Yangshan Seaport and Pudong Airport and is a part of Shanghai’s endeavor to build the international shipping center by aggressively developing bonded and non-bonded logistics services. The newly launched projects are Lingang aviation industry sub-part and Fengxian sub-park, which bring the accumulative effect and linkage development will provide new room for Lingang to upgrade its equipment industrial capacity and supply chain.
