They are not a drain. Indead, they are a stimulus. Here's the breakdown:The costume exhibition, "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," drew more than 600,000 viewers. The "Anthony Caro on the Roof" attracted more than 300,000 viewers so far (it closes Oct. 30, 2011). Both the "Richard Serra Drawing: A Retrospective" and "Rooms with a View: The Open Window in the 19th Century," brought in nearly 200,000 viewers each. Most of the viewers came from outside the Greater Metropolitan Area. Of those, they spent an average of $927 per person on lodging, food, entertainment and more; and, they stated that visiting the Met was the key factor in deciding to visit NYC.Yes...I know. That is New York City. But don't discount the impact that the arts can have in stimulating an economy.
