FLORIDA BOARD OF NURSING ENACTS CE REQUIREMENT CHANGES
The Florida Board of Nursing enacted legislative changes to CE requirements changed through legislation this year.  Effective immediately, a nurse who is certified by a health care specialty program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies or the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification is EXEMPT from continuing education requirements mandated by the state. This includes HIV, domestic violence, medical errors and Florida nurse practice laws and rules.  All ARNPs including CRNAs are therefore exempt from this requirement. Recently FANA has become aware that some confusion exists on the issue of supervision of Anesthesia Assistants (AAs). There have been no changes to the statutory language as noted below. If you encounter discrepancies in this regard, you may file a complaint to the Florida Dept. of Health.
