This all exists while Cornwall receives, in the words of Cornwall Council Leader John Pollard, “an acceptable increase in council tax”, amounting to 1.97%. Furthermore, Cornwall Council has acted with all haste to locate these public sector savings. According to their 2014/15 budget, they estimated to make savings of “£41m over the next twelve months [and] will then need to find further reductions making a total of up to £195m over the next five years.” It appears that the Lib Dem and Independent majority led Council has succeeded in reducing inefficiencies, working overtime to squeeze every penny of the extra £5m they under budgeted by, out of the Cornish tax payer.None of the ‘Big Three’ representatives in Cornwall Council are immune from criticism on this crippling policy. While Westminster present spending cuts, the councillors of the Lib Dems, Tories and Labour, answer with what MK Councillor Andrew Long called “the deafening silence.” As Lib, Con, and Lab councillors appease their London parties and sit tight on the Council, they are steadily drifting away from the people they are supposed to serve. Thus, the time is right for Cornwall Councillors of the Big Three who oppose budget cuts to start acting in the interests of the Cornish people, and send a clear message to their London-centric leaders.Mebyon Kernow do offer an alternative to the repetitive, boring, and stagnant politics that British people, arguably as late as the Scottish referendum, have been subjected to. At the MK Conference, Councillor Loveday Jenkin described MK as “more Labour than Labour”, standing as a real bastion against both mainstream politics, and the policies carried out by the subservient followers of the London millionaire party leaders.
