Bakersfield firefighters were busy Thursday.
A house fire on Chico Street near California and Union Avenues displaced seven people. There was about $100,000 damage to the property.
A two alarm fire on Baldwin Street near the Valley Plaza mall was started from trash burning. Two people suffered 1st degree burns and one person was taken to the hospital. Damages there added up to $250,000.

His firm will now represent of the family of Ronnie Ledesma Jr., who died after resisting arrest outside an east Bakersfield store in August 2013. A spokesperson for Kern County says sheriff痴 deputies were dealing with a man under the influence of drugs and their use of force was reasonable.
A group of California farmers say they face financial ruin under orders to stop pumping river water to irrigate their crops this summer. The Banta-Carbona Irrigation District in Tracy filed a lawsuit asking a judge to suspend the order issued by the state Water Resources Control Board.
A Santa Barbara beach closed last month after a crude oil spill will reopen next week. The California Department of Parks and Recreation said that people will be allowed to visit El Capitan State Beach beginning June 26. Another beach adjacent to the pipeline break will remain closed until at least July 9.
A Southern California woman has been charged with beating her boyfriend to death with canned food. Prosecutors says she struck her boyfriend in the head with a can of peas, a can of carrots and a can of chicken broth at her home. He died from the assault.
The work on Gosford Road between Ming Avenue and White Lane will continue through the beginning of August. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction.
The Chevron Weather Center reports it will be continued sunny and hot with highs over 100 through the weekend. A slight cooling trend begins Monday with highs in the mid-90s.
