Total32,011July 11, 2009: Car vs House!A senior citizen driving on Kemp Mill Road drove straight through the dead end at Arcola Avenue and went airborne into a house on Daffodil Lane. The house suffered significant structural damage and the elderly female driver was a Priority 1 category A trauma. (KVFD Medic 705 treated and transported her to Suburban Hospital's Regional Trauma Center) The house was declared structurally unsafe by the County Building Inspector. The Red Cross assisted the uninjured home owner with finding shelter for the night. News Channels 4 and 9 recorded the scene and spoke to County Public Information Officer Garcia. The working assignment was KVFD Medic 705, Rescue 742, KVFD Engine 718, EMS 702, KVFD Chiefs 705-D and 705-C, Fire Marshal-35 and a Montgomery County building inspector.72% of America's firefighters are volunteers.Read WHY THEY SERVE? by Peter Greenberg. No transports took place, however.Our KVFD Canteen 5 crew set-up on the west side as well. Once set up, two KVFD members loaded up with Gatorade, water and snacks and walked down to the track area. One member stayed with the Canteen and continued to serve those on the outer perimeter of this staging area. There was apparatus from DC, VA, and MD staged on this side of the scene. Many crews had already been there for hours and had not gotten any dinner. All were appreciative for the drinks and snacks we had to offer them.Accident site admission was strictly and heavily protected for all the obvious reasons. The many camera and news crews on the west side were restricted access to the area. They was an occasionally helicopter overhead. Canteen 5 was at the scene for about 2-1/2 hours.Medic 705 Placed in Service !KVFD Fire Chief Jim Stanton announces the implementation of Advanced Life Support (ALS) service from Station 5. Medic 705 is now providing transport ALS service on an as available basis utilizing KVFD volunteer personnel. We would like to thank MCFRS Chief Richie Bowers and his staff for their support.Aerial Tower 705 Delivered to KVFD !June 12, 2009 - KVFD proudly took possession of a new 100 foot aerial tower, Tower 705, at Station 5. The new tower, partially purchased with a federal grant, is the culmination of many months of planning, details and manufacturing. Designed to replace an outdated 1973 Seagrave 100? open cab/open tiller aerial truck, Truck 705 is the lastest addition to the KVFD fleet. On
