The Walking Revolution, a documentary film released today by Every Body Walk! The Diabetes Resource Coalition of Long Island is an alliance of community based organizations, agencies, businesses and health care professionals committed to identifying resources and raising diabetes awareness through the provision of information and education about the prevention and treatment of diabetes. The Coalition was formed in 1998. Our mission is to maximize the use of community resources dedicated to the prevention, identification and treatment of diabetes on Long Island. The Coalition offers members the opportunity to network with health care professionals interested in diabetes prevention, identification, treatment, and advocacy. The Coalition also provides a venue for professionals to share resources, and receive continuing education on recent developments in diabetes standards and care. Community residents also have opportunities to increase their knowledge of diabetes and available resources. The Diabetes Resource Coalition of Long Island is recognized as a regional Community Coalition for Diabetes Prevention by the New York State Department of Health and has received grant funding for Coalition projects since 1999. Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County is a community project that is a part of a state wide initiative funded to the Family Health and Wellness Program area of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County by the New York State Department of Health.
