Posted in HomeSchooling Sep/05 LovingLearning.com has a new look and a new structure. This website was my first ever hand coded in HTML back in 2005. Since then I’ve learned a ton and have chosen to go with WordPress as my platform of choice. You can read about why here or just search for what you were looking for in the top right of your screen. We have decided to home school. It is something I have always wanted to do but as a single mother have had difficulty in making it happen. My daughter is in grade two this year. She is reading short chapter books and excels in math. She can divide small numbers in her head, it’s amazing. I would like her reading and writing better and that is our goal for this year. My son would have started kindergarten next week. Instead he sits beside his sister when she does her work and carefully prints his name and practices writing two letters and two numbers. Last week was our official ‘first day’. I gave them each a hardcover spiral bound notebook on the first page we wrote the date and their name. My daughter will trace copy two sentences that she can read and this will progress to her copying it beneath where I have written it. For now I want to work on her letter formation, spacing and tidiness. Beneath that she will spell a number and copy it out several times neatly. And finally I have written a set of math equations for her to copy and complete. We do this everyday after breakfast weekends included. It takes about 30 minutes and I feel like it is a good way to start our day. I am engaging my children and focusing my attention solely on them. This has provided the launching ground to all sorts of interesting conversations from why there are three ways to spell two to how hot air rises and makes things float. I consider myself blessed to be able to share in this with my children and look forward to the journey ahead of us.
