By permission of Dramatists Play Service About the Show: At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In this loving, yet eccentric home one can encounter ballet lessons set to xylophone music, a printing press used to print anti-government messages, fireworks explosions, FBI visits, and a Russian countess. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys whose son Tony falls in love with Alice Sycamore. When the two families meet for dinner on the wrong night, the Kirbys encounter a world quite foreign to them. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, which leads to many hilarious complications, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question.
