On Saturday, Feburary 23, we conducted the Second Annual Deep South Dulcimer Competition for mountain and hammered dulcimer. Lots of competitors from 5 states. This year's winners are: Aaron Thornton (RIGHT) from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi is the 2013 Deep South Mountain Dulcimer Champion. Aaron won a trophy, medal and new, custom, 6-string McSpadden mountain dulcimer. Second place winner was Patricia Bond (CENTER), from Leakesville, Mississippi, and third place went to Peggy Broussard from Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. Aaron will be ineligible to compete next year, but Patricia and Peggy will be back! Come join the fun at the 2014 Southern Strings Festival . . . it's not too early to make plans! Russ Lee from Huntsville, Alabama (RIGHT) is the 2013 Deep South Hammered Dulcimer Champion. Russ won a trophy, medal, and new, custom Songbird Wood Thrush hammerred dulcimer. Second place winner was Brenda Rollinson (CENTER) from Summit, Mississippi, and third place went to Don Hill (LEFT) from Petal, Mississippi. Russ will be ineligible to compete next year, but Brenda and Don will be back!
