He expects more than 250 people to go to the event, which costs $25 to attend."It gives me a chance to show off our venue before it opens," White said.White also is hosting the first "I Am The Classic Empowerment Expo" on Friday at Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The free expo will include a job fair, panel discussions on business, health and entertainment, as well as a vendor fair where businesses can show off and sell their goods and services. On Saturday, White is hosting a party called Encore V at the Sheraton Birmingham with actor Lance Gross of "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" as the special guest. Admission starts at $10."I've probably got almost six figures invested in this, but it's all to help the city I love," White said.White is not the only one seeking to tap into (Magic company)Magic City Classic's economic power. The Classic is expected to pump between $13.8 million and $15 million into metro Birmingham's economy this week, according to an estimate by the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau. The event packs a punch that provides a boost for many area businesses. Area caterers, for example, are cooking for tailgaters outside Legion Field, while hotels are packed with football fans from both schools, and bus companies are getting a boost during a slow time of the year, transporting folks to the game.Convention officials expect 66,000 to attend the game, many from outside Alabama, up from last year's nearly 62,000 fans that made it the biggest historically-black college football classic in the country. Game attendees will get a special treat this year, a performance on the field after the game by old-school R&B act Frankie Beverly & Maze.Another 30,000 to 40,000 are expected to tailgate around Legion Field. The Classic, presented by State Farm with Coca-Cola this year, has grown into a major social and economic event.Family reunions are planned around the events, and graduates of both schools come in from across the country, said Faye Oates, executive director of the event for the Bruno Event Tea
