Introduction
Rolmax Law Office was one of the first private law firms in China, established in June 1995, providing legal services in many areas including shipping, logistics, foreign investment, corporate and commercial, international trade, insurance and real estate. As a result of the sustained efforts of our staff, Rolmax enjoys a prestigious reputation worldwide for diligent service to clients, and is one of the few law firms within China which provides such specialised services in maritime & admiralty, marine insurance and international trade. Rolmax conducts its practice from its Shanghai headquarters, and has steadily grown by successfully establishing three branch offices in Beijing, Guangzhou and Ningbo.
The legal team of Rolmax consists of more than 20 partners and about 100 experienced attorneys and paralegals. Most of our lawyers hold Master’s or Doctoral legal degrees from the foremost universities and institutions worldwide and possess a well-developed theoretical understanding of the law matched with considerable and varied practical legal experience.  The firm is staffed with multilingual, internationally-experienced attorneys who come from diverse career backgrounds from China, Australia and the United States, e.g. private law firms, governmental bodies, multinational corporations and academia, bringing to Rolmax a rich variety of knowledge and professional experience. Amongst the staff at Rolmax are professors of law from renowned universities, and former judges of the Supreme People's Court of China, local courts and the maritime courts who have considerable trial experience. The unique constitution and powerful academic background of Rolmax is further demonstrated by the fact that members of our staff have formerly been appointed as expert counsel to the Chinese governmental bodies such as the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Commerce, as well as various industrial associations such as the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and the China International Freight Agents Association.
Maritime and Admiralty is one of Rolmax’s traditional areas of specialty and includes carriage of goods by sea, bills of lading, sea waybills, charterparties, coastal transport, marine insurance, P&I insurance, collision, salvage, towage, general average, pollution and environmental damage, limitation of liabilities for maritime claims, sale and purchase of ships, ship financing, ship building and repair, arrest of ship, maritime security, crew employment, personal injury, port operations, maritime administrative litigation, non-contentious advice and assistance.
