For consumers, there rarely is a third option. It’s either one or the other. While there are other smartphone options, like Blackberry and Symbian, Windows Phone should be high on the list of options for a new phone. Here are my top reasons for being a Windows Phone fanboy. It’s different. Look at iOS and Android. They both have the same basic design. Even some of the Android phones are iPhone look-a-likes. With Windows Phone you get some originality. The UI isn’t just a bunch of tabs and buttons. Apps are called hubs and are designed beautifully. And even look at phones like the HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920. Not only are they rounded at the corners, they come in vibrant colors that make the phone unique and stand out in a crowd. All Windows Phone are made the same way. With Android, a hardware vendor can do whatever they want to the phone’s hardware. Sure, it sounds great, but that also means that they can put inside the phone a slow processor and not all Android phones look the same, which causes confusion with consumers. With Windows Phone, Microsoft makes hardware vendors use a fast processor, include an FM tuner, a camera button, with two clicks for focusing and taking the picture, and the phone must have the three buttons at the bottom. This allows Windows Phones to be familiar to one another and cause less compatibility issues. The included software is phenomenal. With iOS, to get a word processor, you need to pay $15 for Pages in the App Store, and to get the whole iWork set, you need to pay $45. And with Android, you get a wide selection of office applications. But on Windows Phone, you get the one and only Microsoft Office for free. Right out of the box, you get the industry standard of office applications. You also get Xbox Live, which most gamers use and know already. Apple has Game Center, which requires you to use iOS only. But on a Windows Phone, you can connect with all of your friends on their Xbox or Windows Phone. Other included apps are Zune Pass, which allows users to get unlimited music at a low monthly price, Bing, which can scan barcodes, QR codes, books, DVD covers and can even listen to music and tell you quickly what music is playing, and the Messaging app allows users to chat via SMS, Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat. Skype Video Chat right out of the box. Forget FaceTime, video call with the well known VoIP program everyone already has. These are my top reasons for loving Windows Phone, but are they enough for you to switch?
