TV Casualty This is the static age, our very static age. Some pictures of the store February 20th, 2008 Here are some pics I took inside Beadniks, Santa Monica. These were hand held so they ended up being a little blurry and possibly out of focus. I’m still learning the controls for the is 40D. It’s got way more buttons and knobs than my AE-1, for sure. Posted in Photography | No Comments » New hobby February 20th, 2008 I recently got a Canon EOS 40D (mmmmm, drool). It felt a little wrong to have to take it’s picture with my trusty old PowerShot S410. The S410 took great snapshots but I could never get the kinds of pictures I used to be able to get with my old AE-1. Posted in Photography, Rants | No Comments » Funniest math puns I’ve read today December 21st, 2006 “I say, make it calculate the last digit of pi. You could just guess…you have reasonably good odds of getting it correct. I bet it’s 7.” “Last non-zero digit is 1 — in base pi.” “Base Pi? You’re not being rational.” “But he gets mad props for keeping it real!” Posted in Math / Physics, Rants | No Comments » Don’t Hate Me, I Made This for a Friend :| September 18th, 2006 Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Unfortunatly, I couldn’t figure out a way to cut through and still keep the pieces from falling in. Posted in Moblog, Rants | No Comments » Word of the Day – offal September 18th, 2006 I had no idea it was spelled like this. 1.the parts of a butchered animal that are considered inedible by human beings; carrion. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=offal Posted in Lists | No Comments » Not all fake pumpkins created equal September 11th, 2006 I purchased two carvable foam pumpkins from two different craft supply stores. The one I bought from Michael’s was pretty much a no name brand. The one from Joanne’s was a Funkins brand pumpkin. Interestingly, I liked the no name brand better (as shown in the picture above). The biggest difference was the thickness of the walls. It was definitely thinner, but it was more uniform, which made it easier to cut. The skin didn’t have a tendency to peel like the Funkins pumpkin and the color of underneath the skin, although unrealistically white (the Funkins is more similar to what a real pumpkin would look like) actually looks better if you are carving designs that don’t cut all the way through the walls. Because of the uniformity and thinness of the walls, it is also possible to make translucent areas, which is made much more difficult by the thickness and overall density of the foam in the Funkins pumpkin. Oh, by the way. The above picture was not taken on my table. I don’t happen to own any doilies.
