    Vision
To cultivate critical thinkers who are able to solve real world, complex problems. Students will participate as productive, responsible citizens who value stewardship and collaboration within the community
    Mission
To provide learning opportunities through integrative, hands-on, self-selected projects related to authentic, real world problems.
    What is WHEA?
Hawaii’s first start-up charter high school, and first start-up charter to officially open (August 14, 2000).
First Hawaii start-up charter to gain full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC, 2002)
A public charter that consistently ranks among Hawaii’s highest performing public secondary schools on the Hawai`i State Assessment (NCLB)
An innovative curriculum that has gained national recognition from the George Lucas Educational Foundation (2001 and 2007), Intel and Scholastic Schools of Distinction (2005), and Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools (2005):
Most recently, WHEA received Accreditation with Commendation in 2009, and in May 2011, was reaccredited for a six year term, the longest period attainable through WASC.
WHEAPCS is a nationally recognized laboratory school serving as a “magnet” for science-focused, outdoor, hands-on education. It features large-scale, long-term, projects that meet or exceed performance demands of traditional “standards based” education. The program works best for students seeking to challenge themselves in a self-directed, science-focused learning environment. The curriculum is writing intensive and college preparatory, but “Can-Do” attitude almost always outshines innate ability. While WHEA’s pedagogy has been developed in the context of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, it is actually designed to be transferable to nearly all academic subjects.
If you’re an educator, Aloha Kai Eco Education tours can accommodate up to 80 of your students, plus chaperones. Our high school docents offer marine science and engineering mini-lessons based on their ongoing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) projects. Aloha Ka
