Types of Cheese
Did you know there are around 1,000 different types of cheese in this world? (give or take a thousand.) Each one of them has their very own process of being manufactured. Find out more about how the cheese you eat gets manufactured.
Process
The process for manufacturing cheese depends on the type of cheese a manufacturer wants to make. Many cheeses are made from curdled milk. The curds get separated, processed, molded, hardened, and ripened. Visit the “cheese-making process” page for a more detailed explanation.
Machinery
A cheese factory is made up of a bunch of different machines. There aren’t just “cheese-making” machines that take care of all the steps in the process. Manufacturers use machines to curdle the milk, machines to cure the cheese, and machines for all other steps in the process.
Packaging
Once the cheese has been manufactured, there is a whole separate manufacturing for packaging it up and sending out to grocery stores. This process uses separate machinery than the process that actually makes the cheese. It all depends on what type of packaging the cheese requires.
