The Featured Voices is enlivened  by the poetry of Pamela Mordecai, author of numerous books, including the marvelous  Subversive Sonnets (TSAR 2012).  Ms. Mordecai’s eclectic verse offers the reader a sensuous journey buoyed by solid rhythms and a courageous willingness to “go there.”

The first Canopic Jar Suite has been added to the Featured Voices. The poets include Virginia Smith Rice, Lana Rakhman, Rethabile Masilo, Tim Pfau, Aaron Delee, Christine Pacyk, Phil Rice, and C. Russell Price. This is the first in an ongoing series of “suites,” and while this debut was solicited, the next installment will be an open call for submissions. More details to come very soon. In the meantime, please take a look at Suite: High Ridin’ Woman. In our immodest opinion, it’s beyond solid.

Canopic Jar proudly welcomes the addition of Dawn Promislow, author of Jewels and Other Stories, to the Featured Voices page. Her short story “Gleaming like light” is spotlighted, and links to other writings are also included.

The Featured Voices section launches with five poems by Rustum Kozain introduced by CJ co-editor Rethabile Masilo–a most auspicious beginning to an exciting new phase of Canopic Jar.
Intro
Though primarily a literary based venture since its debut as a print journal in 1986, Canopic Jar has sought to be an organic forum for artists of whatever media or genre that strikes the moment. Over the years an emphasis has been consistently placed on substance rather than credentials, and in this light a wide-range of artists have been represented, from authors with bestsellers on their resume to retirees finally putting words on paper for the first time—and all in between. As one critic once described it, “Canopic Jar offers communal nourishment without walls.”
Unlike previous online incarnations, the current Canopic Jar will not be presented in “issues” but will instead be an ongoing presentation. We will post featured writings and art galleries periodically, as well as audio and/or video offerings. There is also a section devoted to classics and other artistic ventures that the editors post simply out of a desire to share work which for one reason or another has caught our appreciative eye. As always, we will be showcasing a mix of styles and voices, and the boundaries of content will remain organic and flexible.
Print and eBook Canopic Jar projects as well as other books bearing the  Canopic Publishing imprint are also on the docket for 2014.
