20TH Annual Eastern Elk Management Workshop

“20 Years of Eastern Elk Restoration and Management”
It is our pleasure to invite you the 20th annual Eastern Elk Management Workshop hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation. The event will take place at The Landing resort located in Van Buren, Missouri. Accommodations at the Landing are limited so we recommend you reserve your place at the resort as soon as possible. The group rate reserved for EEW participants at The Landing is $77/night for single rooms $88/night for double rooms (when making reservations mention that you are attending the EEW). Other accommodations are available in Van Buren at the Big Springs motel and camping at the Big Springs campground in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Closest airports to Van Buren include the St Louis International airport (3-hour drive) and the Springfield-Branson National Airport (2.5-hour drive).
We are very pleased to announce a keynote speaker for this year’s workshop: Dr. Kurt VerCauteren - a world-renowned expert on elk disease ecology and damage management, issues at the forefront of the minds of many elk managers, biologists and researchers in Eastern North America. Dr. VerCauteren is currently a research wildlife biologist at the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and project leader on the Management of Ungulate Disease and Damage research project. You can view a sample of Dr. VerCauteren’s recent publications on the APHIS wildlife damage website.
We will continue the format of providing state population updates electronically rather than through oral presentations, and reserve the presentation period for discussion of research findings or management techniques. We request that each state provide an update prior to April 11, so that they can be compiled on a flashdrive and given to all participants.
The presentation proposal submission deadline will be March 15. Please plan on a 15-20 minute presentation, although more time may be allocated if needed. Any proposed presentation regarding all aspects of elk ecology and management in Eastern North America will be considered.
