The kid at the cleaning station would often say of these fish: “Pink on the outside and pink on the inside…”Sadly, that’s not the case for Andrew Clark’s Sacramento River hatchery buck…but hey, what’s a little tan meat among friends? Nothing a Camp Chef Smoke Vault smoker and some Hi-Mountain seasonings couldn’t fix…and, if he’s lucky enough to win this year’s Smoker of the Year Contest, that’s exactly what will show up on Andrew’s doorstep! Filed Under: Smoker of the Year Contest Could BC salmon farms wipe out West Coast Salmon & Steelhead?October 27, 2013 • 1 Comment There’s a very disturbing situation developing in British Columbia that could adversely affect salmon and steelhead populations from Alaska to California. Here’s the basic gist: When all wild BC steelhead & salmon smolts migrate out of their tributary streams in the spring (basically anywhere lower than Port Hardy on Vancouver Island), they have to swim past large numbers of salmon feed lots in narrow channels. When they do this, the smolts are subjected to all the pathogens and viruses coming from the farms. The smolt then head to the Gulf of Alaska, where they will come in contact with ALL species of salmon smolts from the entire west coast. Like a flu in an elementary school, the viruses can then be spread to fish bound for waters from there down to the Sacramento River. This is a bad, bad deal and infected fish are starting to be very common in Canada. Take a look at these upsetting pix. Yellow colored salmon are indicative of ISA virus infection, symptom
