Membership
Who is the GWRRA? We are your next door neighbor. Your 
associate at work. Your doctor. Your child's teacher. People 
from all walks of life have come together to make the GWRRA what 
it is an organization that makes no social or political demands 
on its participants, other than to allow them the opportunity to 
have the time of their life, enjoying the most exciting means of 
transportation ever invented.
GWRRA is organized by Region, District (State) and Chapters.  The Virginia District is part of Region N, the Appalachian Region.  One of our claims to fame is that we have some of the greatest roads in our country for motorcycle enthusiasts.  Our motto is “Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge”.
Virginia itself is made up of approximately 1,600 members, and continues to grow its membership.  Worldwide, we are approximately 70,000 strong and one big happy family.  We are made up of individuals who ride the Honda Gold Wing motorcycle and the Valkyre motorcycle.  Additionally, we have many associate members who although riding a motorcycle other than the two mentioned, love to associate themselves with GWRRA.  Everyone is welcome – it doesn’t matter what kind of motorcycle you ride.  
Chapters gather monthly for educational (rider safety) and socialization.  There are currently 21 chapters in the District (State) of Virginia.  Our annual convention known as Rally in the Valley is held in Salem, Virginia at the Civic Center each Columbus Day weekend, and attendees from all over the country come to gather for three days of activities and great camaraderie, concluding on Saturday evening with a banquet and awards.  This is a “must go to” rally for our attendees due to the timing of the event as well as the close access to the Blue Ridge Parkway which offers excellent roads for our motorcycle riders.  Our national convention known as Wing Ding will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee in early July 2011, drawing 14,000 plus attendees from all over the world. In recent years, GWRRA Chapters statewide have raised thousands of dollars for Sgt. Santa and provided walk marshalling, communications, and accounting services of the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s MS-Walk in Richmond, Emporia and Fredericksburg, Virginia.  In addition to this, the “Ride for Kids” has become an annual fundraising event for those children fighting pediatric brain cancer.  This fundraising’s purpose is for research and development into combating this horrible disease that affects children.
