The Hospital Alliance Association (HospAA) was formed in 1996 by Rick Parker, a distributor sales manager who was personally touched by Healthcare Associated Infections. Rick has made it his mission to help hospitals identify best cleaning practices and implement processes and products that help save lives! HospAA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit California corporation. Our focus is to create learning environments where new ideas for improving the maintenance and care of the hospital environment are evaluated and discussed with industry experts. Our recommendations are cost-efficient processes rooted in patient and worker safety! History HospAA was at the center of the paradigm shift that replaced the use of the string mop (that had been patented in 1893) for hospital floor cleaning with the flat microfiber mop system. This new system uses less water and chemicals in the cleaning process while being more efficient from a cleaning standpoint and is an ergonomic improvement for workers. Through our local conferences, HospAA has become a teaching institution for hospital staff, and regulators. Our half-day training conferences have been highly informative and well received by those in attendance. During calendar year 2009, HospAA held several training conferences averaging 80 attendees at each. These events were attended by environmental services staff, hospital pharmacists, infection control practitioners, administrators, students, regulators as well as sponsoring companies. The training provided at these conferences focused on timely subjects including: proper handling and disposal of pharmaceutical wastes, hospital pollution prevention and green cleaning techniques, regulatory updates for proper handling of medical wastes, infection control practices, and success of implementing a new comprehensive cleaning process for environmental surfaces.
