Northerner learns about the importance of A/C in Arizona
I lived in the north most of life and became quite educated on everything one would need to know about the climate and seasons of the north. I knew for a fact that having a heated garage was the best idea for anyone with the ability to pay the price for one, and if you had the opportunity of getting an engine warmer installed in your car it was a great idea. I knew how to shovel snow and where to put it when I was done shoveling. I was well versed in the idea of coal and oil and where it was suppose to go to make sure my house felt the way it was suppose to feel. We never had a fireplace, but we always had a furnace and I was always adding oil into it to warm us up and keep the house a beautiful 72 degrees. Watching the thermometer drop below zero was normal. Then we moved to Arizona.
Arizona and the states surrounding it is a land of air conditioning. In fact, without the advent of air conditioning I’m not really quite sure if anyone could actually live here. I’ve heard that there are people arou8bnd here that actually live without out a/c, and I can only think that would be an absolute dreadful existence. When I moved down it was the beginning of summer and I had no idea what to expect of the Arizona climate. Within the fist few months the air suddenly stopped. I didn’t think much of it and just opened the windows the way we did in the summer up north. Within an hour, I was dying and the temperature had risen in the house from 72 degrees to 100 degrees. The outside temperature was 105 and I needed to have the air conditioning repair person come out as soon as possible.
This is when I was introduced to the hvac industry, a virtually unknown industry to me when I was living up north. Because it is so hot in this area, the repair people are very busy and very sought after. In fact, in the dead of summer Arizona air condition companies have waiting lists of people they have to service. Well, Phoenix HVAC came out and fixed up the air conditioner in a quick minute. Turns out that in this dry climate, the hoses become cracked and broken. In fact, he was saying that because the temperatures inside and outside the pipes are so different they often fail and cause the a/c to stop working at the exact time it was needed. Most of the time however, a/c problems are simply because it is out of the gas in which it takes to cool the house. Now I am sitting in a cool house and the Arizona heat looks a lot better outside than it does inside.
