Updated 04/14/2009 Welcome to the ILSA Home Page! About Us ILSA stands for the Interstate Labor Standards Association, an organization of state labor department officials. Members of our organization are responsible for administering and enforcing state labor laws. These laws may include child labor, dismissal rights, employer or contractor registration, workplace safety and health, wage protection and collection statutes covering wages and fringe benefits, minimum wage and overtime, prevailing wages, and other related laws. In most states, this responsibility lies with that state's labor department or similarly titled agency. ILSA is composed of labor standards agency representatives from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, and representatives of the U.S. Department of Labor. Representatives from countries around the world, such as Canada, Taiwan and Russia, attend and participate in our conferences and information exchanges. For a complete listing of ILSA members, or for the specific contact for your state, please click on "State Contacts." What is the purpose of ILSA? The first conference was held in Delavan, Wisconsin in 1976. The original objective, to share information, is still the same today. Our organization's purpose is to encourage and assist in improving the administration of the laws and regulations by exchanging labor standards information among our member states. Our customers' needs are important to us, so information focuses on what really works for you. ILSA members regularly share ongoing developments in laws, procedures, court decisions, and enforcement activities. What's our goal? We encourage and assist in the effective administration of labor laws. We endeavor to provide fair and equitable delivery of services and protections to wage earners, and to provide a safe and legal work environment for young workers. We also strive to assist those employers operating in a fair and just manner by assuring consistent administration of labor standards laws.
