For my 11-year-old self, The Monkees were the gateway drug between kiddie shows and rock ‘n’ roll. I was so fascinated by the clothes and the music and Micky’s Season 2 hair. The guys were touring in real life at the time, but I was in no position agewise, financially, or geographically to see them, so I decided to make up for it in 2011 when they played the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles — “Carmageddon” be damned.

Wine/Concert Review: Ringo Harris’ Sangria & Journey

Wine Rating System: 
1 skull = slight headache
2 skulls = call in sick tomorrow
3 skulls = wake up in alley covered in own vomit
4 skulls = end up at Journey concert 3 days later
Ringo Harris’ Sangria

Best when consumed from a Gatorade bottle while en route to the Journey concert Ringo drunkenly bought a 4-pack of tickets to after having some 3 days prior. Also goes well with Spanish cheese eaten out of a car trunk after the show.
This is how I, Ringo, Jodido and Dawn Jovi ended up at the Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick show. We arrived just in time for “I Want You to Want Me” and closed out the show with some massive Journey sing-alongs. Crowd highlights included included a neon pink shorts/neon green shirt ensemble, parachute pants, long-haired boys and the guy behind us shouting “Look at those cougars!” And of course hearing my favorite song ever, “Surrender,” played live.
