Welcome Welcome to Kodanja.net, the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Kodanja archives. Here you will find photo galleries of all of the Annual Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Kodanja Shim Sa, biographies of Kodanja members, articles from the Kodanja members and more. A letter from Kwan Jang Nim As you know obtaining the kodanja level is the pinnacle of achievement in the martial arts. As of today, February 18, 2004, I have been privileged to assist approximately 65 individuals in reaching the level of Kodanja in the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan style. Individuals who achieve this level have a minimum of 13 years experience. Many of these individuals are professional teachers while others fulfill invaluable roles within their dojangs. The camaraderie that I have experience with individuals at this level is one of the most rewarding aspects of our Moo Do lifestyle. This camaraderie comes at a price however. The Kodanja Shim Sa is like no other martial art event. It is an intense 5 day training experience. Participants prepare for this event during their entire martial arts lives. The selection process is very stringent in that practitioners have to satisfy their minimum training time requirements with their instructors, they have to satisfy teaching requirements, pass proficiency requirements, have experience in administrating and assisting in martial arts tournaments, must satisfy attendance requirements for Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan events and they must show outstanding leadership qualities in the way they conduct and present themselves. There are extensive written requirements that candidates must meet before they attend the Kodanja Shim Sa. After all the pre-requisites have been met then the candidates are officially invited to participate in Kodanja Shim Sa. The Kodanja training has been affectionately referred to as "not being for the faint of heart". It often begins at 7:00 a.m. and continues until 12:00 midnight each day. The candidates are asked to emphasize their unity and team concept throughout the week. Every aspect of the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan curriculum, its teaching and martial art philosophy are reviewed, tweaked and refined during this week. The final physical demonstration of their abilities takes place on the last day (usually Sunday). I have been told that this experience for many has been a life changing one. This must be true because each year many of our Kodanja who are not up for promotional advancement take time off from work just to be there. Often times there are more non testing Kodanja members attending the Kodanja Shim Sa than those who are actually testing, indicating how special this event is to many of our senior members. The TAC works hard each year preparing for and making sure that this event goes smoothly and without a hitch. Sa Bom Nim Kopf, Sa Bom Nim Dugan and Sa Bom Nim DeVita have gotten so good at it that its success each year is a virtual guarantee. Many of our Kodanja are extremely accomplished in t
