There are numerous of house pets that one can opt to purchase, but there is one pet, in particular, that has become one of people’s favorite house pets due to its small size, adorable features, and playful nature: Syrian hamster (also known as golden hamster).
The amount of Syrian hamsters that exist in the world is rapidly declining due to different factors such as laboratories using them for research and agriculture. Thankfully, there are well-established breeding programs, around the world, that prevent this type of hamsters from disappearing off the face of the earth.
Syrian hamsters can grow up to be five to seven inches long (dwarf hamsters grow approximately eight centimeters long) and can live up to two or three years. According to the recommendation of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, this kind of hamsters make great house pets for individuals who are 10 years of age or older. Children who are under this age should be supervised by an adult when handling this hamster, as hamsters can bite if disturbed in a rough way.

Teddy Bear Hamster- This kind of Syrian hamster has four inch long hair from the hips down, which is what makes it have a teddy bear-like appearance.
Dominant Spot Hamster: Since it was first discovered in America, this kind of golden hamster has become very popular in different nations for being white with colored spots.

Proper Care
Syrian hamsters love to be active. For this matter, a big wire cage that has a plastic base would be the ideal place to place them in. Avoid purchasing any cage that is made out of wood, as wood tends to absorb fluids such as urine, which can be a huge downfall when it comes to keeping their area clean. Since this kind of hamsters like to climb a lot, make sure that the cage you choose is not very high, as you don’t want your pet to fall from a high level and end-up hurting his/her fragile body. In addition, in order to prevent other harmful matters, place the cage away from direct heat, sunlight, and draughts. Make sure that you clean the cage at least once a week.
