The Professional MPEG Forum
Pro-MPEG – the Professional-MPEG Forum (Founded 1998) – was an association of broadcasters, program makers, equipment manufacturers, and component suppliers with interests in realizing the interoperability of professional television equipment, according to the implementation requirements of broadcasters and other end-users. The Forum was in existence for approximately 8 years up to 2009 and had over 130 members.
Independence, openness, and non-commerciality were fiercely maintained to ensure all organizations and individuals can participate and contribute. The SMPTE and the EBU were two key partner organizations, and the output of the Forum's work on operating ranges and file formats was submitted to SMPTE for standardization.
This site is designed to provide information about the past work of the Pro-MPEG Forum and in particular the successful standardisation of MXF. There are still some activities remaining and these will also be reported upon. Apart from celebrating the achievements of Pro-MPEG it is hoped the site will act as a useful and informative resource.
