Photo by Peyton Gupton Cordery, Titchenal Win Research Fellowships To encourage the study of railroad history, the R&LHS has awarded research fellowships to Simon Cordery, Macomb, Ill., and Stephen Titchenal, Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Both will use the awards, $2,226 for Cordery, $1,500 for Titchenal, for travel to research collections. This is the fourth year the R&LHS awarded the fellowships, named for railroad scholars William D. Middleton and John H. White, Jr. An R&LHS review committee chose the recipients. The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, Inc., founded in 1921, is the oldest railroad history organization in North America, and among the first anywhere to pursue formal studies in the history of technology. The Society promotes research and encourages preservation of documentation and photography of business history, finance, labor history, and biography as well as technology.
