Sam Winer Motors, Inc. was founded 67 years ago by its' namesake Sam Winer who left his father's company because he had the desire to deal in trucks and equipment. At the end of WWII, he was hired by a conglomerate of American truck dealers who had formed a partnership to buy U. S. Surplus war assets overseas. There was a huge demand for trucks as there had been practically no trucks built for civilian purposes during time of hostilities in WWII. Although trucks were being sold by the War Assets Administration in the continental U. S., there was a large quantity of logistical vehicles located in areas occupied the the U. S. Armed forces. His first assignment was in the Philippines where he loaded boatloads of trucks and shipped them back to California. Customers bought them immediately at areas near the L. A. docks and, ironically, some of his first customers were contractors building things for the government such as the Hanford WA atomic plant. After a few years, he decided to leave the buying group. He expanded his business by moving to our present location on the outskirts of Akron where he eventually acquired 48 acres. Over these years the company has sold almost every vehicle produced for the U. S. military during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and we have become one of the largest government and civilian surplus dealers in the U. S. selling almost everything associated with truck components such as engines, axles, transmissions, tires, etc.. With addition of more management personnel including a son, Harvey Winer, and son-in-law, Sid Zetzer, the company was able to simultaneously run a used truck, truck wrecking, new heavy duty truck parts and winch business ; however, in the last ten years the company began to change its business model as a third generation of family entered the business. Basically, the used civilian truck and civilian truck wrecking have been reduced and the winch and hydraulics have been greatly expanded. Although we have dealt with government surplus winches since the 1940's, the company started adding new winch vendors in the 1960's as a natural progression to enhance our product lines and we have never looked back. Presently, our facilities encompass approximately, 70,000 sq. ft. of warehouse, and 20,000 sq. ft. of garage and repair facilities in addition to the 48 acres of outside storage located within short miles from I-76, I-77, and I-80. <Learn More...> Contact Us General Inquiry Your Name(*) Please let us know your name.
