St. Helens Mountaineering Club News Munros Links Contact Club Hut Membership Meets Welcome St. Helens Mountaineering Club was formed in 1957. Its aims are to promote all forms of mountaineering, and to encourage safe practice on the hills. Membership of the club is open to climbers and mountaineers of all abilities, new members are welcome irrespective of their previous experience. Members are involved in rock climbing, fell walking, snow and ice climbing, Alpine and high-altitude mountaineering, and some members also ski or snowboard. There is a wealth of experience within the club and members have been active throughout Britain, the Alps, Africa, the Himalayas, China, Norway, Spain, Poland, North and South America, and New Zealand. The members elect a committee, who attend to the general running of the club, and arrange a programme of meets for the year. Meets normally include weekend meets at our own hut, or other club's huts, camping meets (for climbing or walking), extended meets in Scotland, the Alps, or other regions, evening rock climbing meets and monthly rambles. We also schedule a Working Weekend for repairs and improvements to the hut. Indoor climbing meets are held every Monday at the North West Face climbing wall in Warrington. Website Contributions We are seeking both written and photographic contributions for inclusion on the news page of this site. Any member, prospective member or guest of the club is welcome to send any pictures, meet reports, articles, news and any other information that may be of interest to members. We are especially keen to have reports of the rambles and also the climbing activities of those members who do not regularly attend the Monday evening meets at the climbing wall in Warrington. Send articles and photographs to the News Editor. Disclaimer The St.Helens Mountaineering Club is an association of amateur mountaineers who endeavour to follow all safety procedures when climbing or hill walking, but there will always be an element of risk for which the club can accept no responsibility. Rock climbing, fell-walking and other forms of mountaineering are activities which require a culture of personal responsibility and self-reliance. The club would also like to draw your attention to the British Mountaineering Council(BMC) Participation Statement:"The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.
