With the building demolitions at Dufferin and King coming up, the artists wanted to highlight the negative impact of gentrification at specific sites, as well as uplift the ongoing and lasting communities that continue to sustain anti-gentrification movements in Parkdale. In the studio We also held our first “repair café” at the studio this spring! Repair Café Toronto aims to build a more sustainable society and counter the throwaway mindset. Last month, the volunteer “fixers” from Repair Café and our neighbours at Bike Pirates set up for the day to help anyone who needed items repaired. It was a day of infusing new life into beloved objects that just needed a little love, and sharing skills and knowledge as a community. If you weren’t able to make it, or are in need of more repairs, don’t worry, we’ll be hosting another repair café in September! In the blog Welcome to the last edition of A Labour of Love: 10 Years of Creativity, Community, and Care! It’s been an incredible year of celebrating some of the many wonderful people we have worked with over the past decade. To wrap up this special series, we wanted to share our own experiences with you about how we’ve been impacted by our projects and being part of The Public. In the community Our communities are thriving and organizing for a better city and world. Check out these upcoming events we are so excited to be supporting! Who is The Public?
