He says that when The Beatles were at the top of their popularity in UK, the front rows of their concerts were reserved for the disabled. “The idea would be that after the show, The Beatles would descend and touch these people and heal them.”
Houran even goes as far as suggesting that, “perhaps there’s a worshipping characteristic in all of us … as human beings, we’re hard-wired to worship something”.

This has now gone one step further as the selection for candidates to travel to and colonise Mars is being decided through a reality TV programme. Mars One hopes to do a Big Brother-style show to help elect which of the 1,058 people for the one-way trip to Mars in ten years time will be among the 40 who make the last selection.
There are over thirty Brits in the 1,058 people who got past the round one application process, which has eliminated thousands of people since March last year. Many of the the would-be astronauts were eliminated on the basis of filming themselves nude in their video applications. Organisers said they didn’t consider anyone "not taking the mission seriously".
The last candidates come from 107 countries and America is the most strongly represented, with almost 300 applicants (45% of them are women). The oldest applicant is 81.
As candidates are put through the selection phase of examinations and simulations, there are plans for Mars One to be a reality TV show, with spectators voting on who should go on the Red Planet. Paul Römer, co-creator and producer of The Big Donor Show and the Big Brother, is a key ambassador for t
