What is a western blot?
DEFINITION:
A western blot is a kind of immunoblot, a technique by which specific proteins may be detected in a tissue or other sample.  First, the sample is processed by gel electrophoresis.  Then it is transferred from the electrophoretic gel to a cellulose or nylon support membrane A particular protein molecule can then be identified by probing the blot with a radiolabelled antibody which binds only to the specific protein in question. Western blots are particularly useful, for example, for measuring levels of protein production in a particular tissue or at particular developmental stage. The western blot was named by its W. Neal Burnette, as a play on the name "Southern blot," which is a similar technique used to on DNA.

AN INNOVATIVE NEW WESTERN PROCEDURE
The One-StepTM  Western Kit is a new product incorporating GenScript's innovative thinking and proprietary technologies.
The One-StepTM  Western cuts total procedure time of a Western or Dot blot from 4½ hours to one hour with no loss in sensitivity.
A classical three-step Western blot requires blocking, primary antibody binding and secondary antibody binding, which can take 4½ hours.
One-StepTM  Western users may simply transfer their proteins from gel to membrane, incubate the membrane in One-Step Pretreatment Solution for five minutes and then in WB solution with primary antibody for 40 minutes, followed by three five-minute washes. Then the membrane is ready to be developed.
