Metra Board Passes Resolution in support of Southeast Service Corridor

The Metra Board unanimously passed a resolution for SouthEast Service Corridor expansion at the Sept. 21 meeting. Metra Resolution Chairman Marty Oberman introduced the resolution with some context, identified the importance and indicated Metra’s endorsement of SES as an integral part of any Calumet Region’s bi-state regional planning, now being initiated in conjunction with NICTD, Metra, NIRPC, and CMAP, South Holland Mayor and Metra Board member Don De Graff stated in an email. At the meeting, Norm Carlson provided historical perspective and strongly endorsed the project, as well as encouraged the SES Commuter Rail Transit District to address creative ideas to advance the project. “I was very glad to add my appreciation and to provide some additional perspective and promotion, De Graff said. ”All said and done, it was a very good endorsement.” Read more →
Mayor De Graff Appoints New Trustee

Mayor Don De Graff has appointed Vickie L. Perkins as village trustee with unanimous approval of the Village Board, replacing retiring trustee Mathew James. Vickie has served the village as a volunteer for thirteen years. She is currently serving as the Chairman of the Youth Commission and has been involved with the commission for the past seven years. The Youth Commission works to identify, develop and execute programs and activities that engage South Holland youth in positive way. Under her leadership, the commission has further developed the Winter Break program, which introduces South Holland children to new cultural and social experiences. During the annual Youth Commission Lock-In at the Community Center, Vickie organizes and manages the Lock-In café, ensuring refreshments are available for the kids all night long. Vickie is intimately involved in the Heritage Haul both in planning and event participation. Each year she brings a Starbucks team to provide refreshments during the event. Vicki is the recipient of the 2013 Mayor’s Award for Future Leadership and the 2014 recipient of the Diversity, Inc. Community Spirit Award.
